Source water catchment management in SEQ
The River Basin Management Society is pleased to host this special seminar exploring the importance of source water catchment management to improve water quality in our water supply catchment. Join us for an interesting evening with our guest presenters, Cameron Wearing and Andrew Watkinson, and new and familiar faces from the industry and community. Drinks and nibbles will be served from 5.30pm. The seminar will commence at 6 pm.
Cameron Wearing is a Principal Policy Officer at Seqwater. Cameron has recently been working on the Catchment Management Investment Standard which has been prepared to assist water utilities make the case for catchment management for drinking water supply. It was developed in close collaboration with water utilities from both Australia and the United States to enable stronger business cases for catchment management as a viable alternative to more capital intensive (traditional) investments. Cameron will provide an overview of how South East Queensland drinking water catchments compare to others in Australia and the United States, an introduction to the Investment Standard and also talk a little about the New York catchment management program which is regarded as the best in the world.
Andrew Watkinson is principal of Source Protection Planning at Seqwater. Andrew has over 15 years experience in water quality risk management and has strong research interests in integrated water management, catchment management, environmental microbiology and their application to the water industry and environment. Andrew will talk about the challenges and issues currently faced for South East Queensland’s water supply and Seqwater’s Catchment Management and Investment Program to address them. Andrew has a focus in natural resource and water quality risk management and the development of adaptive management frameworks to promote sustainable and safe resource utilisation.
