Port Phillip Bay – It’s an icon of Melbourne and much loved by Victorian’s.
The health of Port Phillip Bay is generally good, but Melbourne’s growth, the demands of Victoria’s economy and the pressures of climate change are set to impact on the health of the Bay unless they are managed. To respond to these pressures the Victorian Government have recently released a draft plan to help achieve the best long term health outcomes for the Bay.
The Environmental Management Plan (http://haveyoursay.delwp.vic.gov.au/healthofthebay) recognises the Bay’s inherent natural values, and the social and economic benefits it provides for individuals and communities.
In this reading group we’ll discuss the plan – it’s merits and possible limititions – and develop a submission from the RBMS to the Victorian Government. Our disussion will focus on Chapter 4 of the draft plan. This chapter outlines the vision, goals, priority areas and actions to maintain the health of the Bay over the next ten years.
So come and join us over lunch (BYO food) at the new home of the RBMS for an informal discussion on this important piece of integrated catchment management in Victoria.
