The Draft Healthy Waterways Strategy (draft HWS) outlines the role Melbourne Water will play in managing rivers, estuaries and wetlands in the Port Phillip and Westernport region from 2013/14 to 2017/18.
The draft HWS identifies priority areas and management actions to improve waterway health. The strategy takes a fresh approach to setting waterway management targets by focusing on seven key waterway values: fish, platypus, frogs, macroinvertebrates, birds, vegetation and amenity. The approach aims to understand the waterway condition required to support these key values and focus on actions that provide the required condition and results. Expected outcomes for key values, implementation targets and priority areas for investment are expressed at the ‘system’ scale.
Come and join us for a breakfast discussion on the draft HWS. The discussion will particularly focus on how the approach differs from the Regional River Health Strategy and Addendum from 2005/06 to 2012/13. recently released strategy for water management in Melbourne.
