We invite you to an evening of enlightenment – the development, actions and implications of the Draft Victorian Waterway Management Strategy.
The draft strategy, due to be released for public consultation in the coming weeks, provides important direction for waterway management in Victoria. The strategy will replace the Victorian River Health Strategy (2002) and describes the proposed policy for waterway management over the next eight years.
It includes guidance on regional decision-making, investment, management issues, and roles and responsibilities of management agencies. It also sets aspirational targets for on-ground works and specific actions to deliver improved waterway management.
Once final, the strategy will be implemented by the Victorian Government, waterway managers, land managers, local government and landholders involved in waterway management or activities that may affect waterway condition. Regional Waterway Strategies will be developed to deliver key elements of the strategy.
So come along and hear about the future direction of waterway management in Victoria, and meet some of the people involved in the development of this important document, including four speakers from the Department of Sustainability and Environment:
