RBMS Melbourne seminar
Education and Integrated Catchment Management
The River Basin Management Society (RBMS) invites you to our first seminar of 2015. This seminar will consider secondary, tertiary and professional education in integrated catchment management and the role that the RBMS can have in this. During the seminar, we will hear from two leading educators from the secondary and tertiary sectors, followed by an open discussion around the potential role for the RBMS in education of our industry and the next generation of river basin managers.
Facilitated by RBMS Committee member Myles Coker, the seminar will feature presentations from:
Adrian De Fanti – Geography and Science teacher at Cranbourne High and co-author of the latest geography textbook to be published by the Victorian Geography Teachers Association.
Ian Rutherfurd – Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne and Vice-President of the Victorian Geography Teachers Association.
Adrian will share what schools are currently studying in relation to rivers and catchment management; the enormous opportunities presented by the new curriculum to strengthen education in river basin management; and the potential challenges for secondary school educators to develop and deliver river basin management programs. Ian will present on the challenges facing tertiary education and what changes to Australia’s higher education may mean for river basin management in the future.
Join us for cheese, wine and soft drink from 5.30 pm. The seminar will commence at 6 pm.
