The Australian Government has allocated $15 million towards a National Carp Control Plan, supporting further scientific research, planning, community engagement and communications around the proposed release of carp herpesvirus in the coming years.
Last year, RBMS members came together in Melbourne for a reading group to discuss some of the information available on the plan. If there is one topic that binds Australians together, it is the blight of carp on our waterways.
This seminar will provide an update on the research and planning behind the proposed introduction.
We will hear from Ken McColl – CSIRO’s leading carp virus researcher, and Jarod Lyon – Principal Research Scientist from the Arthur Rylah Institute.
We will also hear from Keith Bell from K&C Fisheries to gain perspective from commercial fisheries who harvest and process carp in Victoria.
Nibbles and drinks start at 5:30pm. The seminar will start at 6pm.
